Stellar Content and Distances of Nearby Galaxies 2004 (NBG2004)

Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur, Nice, France, August 23-27, 2004.

Team members involved in Hubble Space Telescope observations of resolved nearby galaxies will meet for a week to discuss topics related to the program. The long term goal of the project is to obtain good distances and information about the resolved stellar content for as many galaxies as possible within 6 Mpc.

Organizer: B. Tully

This workshop is made possible by support from the French Ministry of Education, CNRS Programme National de Cosmologie, and the Laboratoire Cassiopée

This is the first in a series of two related workshops; for info on the second one, click this link: Large Scale Reconstruction 2004

Getting to the Observatoire

The schedule of bus 74

Departure from Gare Riquier (NB on Thursday and Friday the schedule changes, which is marked in italics):
6:50, 7:20, 8:10, 8:45, 9:15, 10:10, 11:20, 12:05, 13:10, 14:00, 15:00, 15:50, 16:30, 17:30 (17:35), 18:10 (18:00), 18:50 (18:30 and 19:00), 19:30

To get to the Observatory before the morning session starts, you should use buses at 8:45 and 9:15. To get to the Observatory by the lunch time, the only suitable bus is at 11:20.

Departure from the Observatory:
The bus makes a loop, so on each trip it passes the Observatory once and then takes a different route to the city. To return to the city by bus, you thus should come to the Observatory stop at the time the bus passes it, i.e. in approximately 10 minutes after its departure from Gare Riquier. It is of course a good idea to come to the stop a few minutes earlier.

Telephone

To call an observatory telephone from outside, dial 04 92 00 ## ##, where ## ## is a four-digit extension inside the observatory.

For local calls outside the observatory, dial 0 first, then the ten-digit French telephone number. For long-distance and foreign calls please ask a local participant who will give you a suitable code (somewhat confidential). Please note that you cannot call mobile phones from observatory fixed phones.

Local computer network

There are several Linux PCs and X terminals with guest accounts available for participants (details of their location and access procedures are better explained on the spot rather than in an abstract text like this). The Observatory is now running DHCP, so you can connect your laptops to the network. There is no wireless network on the site.
