Painting by DURANGEL in 1879, from a 17th engraving. It was gifted to Paris Observatory  by Raphael Bischoffsheim, the founder of Nice Observatory.


 

Cassini is holding a telescope in his hand,  standing before a celestial globe, and seems to have been interrupted by the painter in his contemplation of the Paris Observatory.
